Princess Sophie of Orleans is dead

October 11, 1928

Princess Sophie, daughter of the Duke of Vendome, died today at the Chateau de Detourronde, near Evian, in France, according to the Associated Press.  She was 30 years old.

In 1921, the Duke and Duchess of Vendome denied press reports that Princess Sophie was engaged to Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia.   The Duchess of Vendome, a Belgian princess by birth, is a sister of King Albert.  She inherited one-third of her late father, the Count of Flanders'  estate.

Both the Duchess and her husband, Prince Emmanuel, are "noted hunters" and have homes at Neuilly-sure-Seine, Cannes, and Wimbledon.

The obituary does not note the cause of death.

[Princess Sophie was born mentally challenged.]
